How I chose a genre for my future game. Part 2

For those who haven’t seen the first part, I’ll let you know that I’m a loyal fan of the RPG genre and until recently I planned my development only in this direction, but at one point my steadfastness began to waver!

One of my friends, and at the moment, also a member of my team, really loves jokers, and jokers with an isometric view are really his passion. I, as a player very far from this genre, became interested in what so attracts my colleague to top-down shootouts.

The key phrase in his story was "flow state". It is for this feeling that my friend comes into such games again and again. “Until you feel it yourself, you won’t understand,” he added and gave me an option on what to chop into. This was exactly RUINER.

Literally the next day, https://windiggerscasino.uk/login/ during a work break (by the way, I work at the computer), I decided to test this toy. I bought it on Steam for ~20$, and as a matter of principle I don’t pirate games, because I think it’s important to support the developer, but that’s how it is, a digression. In general, I literally had about 30 minutes, and to be honest, I was stuck.

The first thing that attracted me was the style. The level design is really awesome, the light is placed very well. In general, the picture is really juicy, it couldn’t help but please me. Perhaps this first top-down shooter just stuck with me, so I took it as a reference for my game. There were comments in the category of “the second Ruiner”, they are not groundless, there are indeed similarities, but only because I really liked the game visually, and I do what I like. But in no case do I copy ideas, I just get inspired.

But it’s all lyrics! By the way, about the genre itself. After playing Ruiner during a break, then after work, then again and again, I realized what stream my friend was talking about. I was literally carried away by this stream and was not carried back. This is truly a very pleasant and overwhelming feeling.

After completing Runer, I received very mixed emotions. The drive caused by that same flow bubbled within me for some time after passing. The storyline and dialogues rather made me laugh, this is not the strongest side of the game, but a top-down shooter doesn’t need to shine with a plot, you say! And you’ll be right! Drive, emotional release and energy, this is what such shooters should carry. I absolutely agree with this.

I repeat once again that RPGs with a deep plot and a well-thought-out world are my favorite, but, unfortunately, now there is a lot of work in my life (+ development), which cannot be said about free time, there is simply not enough for my favorite games. But I don’t want to cut leisure activities like games out of my life at all. Top-down and action shooters are the alternatives that are now available to me. I can run there during a work break, relieve my soul, throw out my emotions and return to work again.

I’m currently playing Hades. In it I found for myself something like the ideal of this genre, it’s still the same flow, but with elements of my favorite RPG and fantasy aspects. This game also inspired me to make some additions to my project that are RPG in nature.

Perhaps this is how I came to choose the genre. I just did and do what I consider to be an excellent option for the modern player, who may not have much free time, but nevertheless has not so little desire to stay in this gaming topic!

Below I’ll attach a link to the page with my game, if you’re interested, come and have a look. If you add it to your wish list, I will be extremely grateful, this will help you show my product to many more players!))
