How games can affect the body: VISION

Yes, it’s a very hackneyed topic, how much have we heard about how games have a detrimental effect on the human body: mental disorders, damage to vision, distorted posture and a ton of other terrible things… But is this true?? I decided to analyze the influence of games and, in general, the impact of the computer on humans. I’m studying to be a medical student myself.university, so to some extent I understand what I’m writing about.
And so, first of all, I personally would be interested to know what is happening with our eyes and the entire visual system.
And yes, there will be a lot of anatomy and physiology here, so this article can also be called educational

But to begin to understand the effect, you need to know the structure of the eye (I won’t go into too much detail, I’ll focus on the structure and function, at least I’ll try)

Structure of the eye

And so, the eyes are the mirror of the soul, but in fact the eye is a hollow sphere in which from a physical point of view there is nothing complicated, the refraction of light rays, sending them to the retina and transforming them into a nerve impulse, which then travels along the pathways to the lateral geniculate bodies, and then to the final section – the occipital cortical center. This is approximately 10th part of the entire mechanism, just structures, nothing more

And finally, let’s move on to the structure of the eye (yay, otherwise it’s just water and that’s all… as in my answers)

And so the eye is the general name of the organ, which includes the EYEBALL and AUXILIARY ORGANS

Eyeball

The eyeball is a spherical body lying in the orbit (an interesting fact, the eyeball is much smaller than the eye socket itself, and so that the eyeballs do not fall out, the free space is filled with fat), separates the anterior and posterior poles.

As can be seen in the image, the eye does not occupy the entire cavity of the orbit, and it is there that the fat lies, which fixes the eyeball and performs shock absorption

Eye shells

The first in line membrane is called fibrous; it is the outermost and performs a protective function. The fibrous membrane is not a continuous layer of connective tissue (so to speak). It contains 2 structures, the sclera (the same whites of the eyes) that covers the back of the eye. The cornea is a continuation of the sclera, with one exception – it is transparent, I think there is no need to explain that this is due to the fact that light must somehow fall on the retina.

The choroid is more complex than the https://jackpot-charm.uk/login/ fibrous membrane due to its function. It is rich in blood vessels, lies under the sclera and has a dark color due to pigment. The choroid consists of 3 sections: the choroid proper, the ciliary body, and the iris. Everything is simple with these parts: 1 supplies the eye with nutrients, 2 the area where the sclera transitions into the cornea, helps in the accommodation of the eye (changes in the curvature of the lens) and releases moisture into the eye (something like a lubricant), 3 – plays the role of a diaphragm, depending on the lighting it can narrow and expand, for normal vision.

And the most important shell in my opinion is the retina. There are many interesting things associated with it; complex processes of converting light into electrical impulses take place in it. As everyone knows, the retina has rods and cones – special cells that give us our wonderful vision, but few people know about the 3rd type of cells, the so-called “bipolar cells”, they act as a bridge, connecting one cone or several rods with the ganglion.
Admit it, who at least once would like to be an invisible man??) I hasten to upset you, in this state we will be blind, because the retina will completely transmit light through itself, and for vision to occur, irritation must occur on it to transform this very irritant into an electrical impulse. But it’s worth noting that no one would have seen us either, but what does that matter to us..

Inner nucleus of the eye

That’s all with the shells, but I didn’t name the light-refracting structures that are inside the eye cavity and their name is the inner core of the eye

The vitreous humor is a jelly-like substance that fills the empty space of the eye and directs light to the retina

The lens, changing its curvature, focuses the rays on the same retina, and performs the same accommodation. T.e. focusing vision on a specific object or several.
Phew… I want to repeat that this is all described briefly, without physiology and histology, there would be hell, and the article would look like a dissertation, but I’m not ready for that yet, and hysta is not my favorite subject, 50 shades of pink and purple is such a hobby.

Since you and I know how the eye works, all its structures and what they do, we can already find out how the computer influences it and I’ll say right away that this is not a myth, or not really

Computer damage

There are undoubtedly benefits from games, according to statistics, players in “shooting games” (a word from childhood) make decisions faster, and what is most important is not at random, but after weighing the pros and cons. But this is a little different and will be written about it another time (if you are interested)

They have been talking about the dangers of televisions and monitors for a very long time, since everyone had them at home, and looking at the old monitors you can believe it, because they looked, to put it mildly, unsafe, and it felt like they were working on an internal nuclear reactor, and what a stroke of ass it was when at one in the morning they began to crackle..

Such monitors emitted strong radiation, which actually spoiled the eyes, caused dryness, the lens could not bend normally and resulted in myopia. It’s not for nothing that they sold shields for such monitors, which were not only a stylish accessory that made an already terrible monitor even uglier, but also somehow saved your eyes

The problem is that all people are very individual, each has their own resistance to irritants; someone from working two hours a day begins to lose sight, while someone can sit and cut code for 24 hours so that we can watch memes.

Everyone knows about dry eyes, pain under the eyelids and redness of the sclera, and this is the first call that you should tear your ass off the chair and go stretch, get some air and go to the ophthalmologist.

All these signs can indicate computer vision syndrome, but if you have laces floating in front of your eyes, then it’s not a fact that it’s from the computer, it could be harmless worms that have settled in the eye (yes, this can happen)

And it’s not for nothing that I went on and on about the structure of the eye, let’s look at some of the causes of discomfort and pain

1) Pain, double vision, fatigue, fog and veil – these are classic signs of ciliary muscle fatigue (What is this you ask, I decided not to write about muscles. To. they belong to the auxiliary apparatus. The ciliary muscle plays a major role in accommodation; it is the muscle that either stretches or “shrinks” the lens.) When we look in front of us at a close distance, the ciliary muscle is tense, and like all muscles cannot be in working condition for a long time (It is clear from this that these symptoms can be not only due to the computer, but in general due to any bullshit. Therefore, dear fellow students, give yourself a rest not only at the computer, but also with walks, otherwise there is no point in sitting for 3 hours writing notes, and then sitting at the computer for another 3 hours.)

2) Discomfort appears when the eye is dry, redness of the sclera can also be attributed to this. You see, the lacrimal glands are also part of the auxiliary apparatus, and they moisten the eye, through the channels they supply tear fluid in a small amount to the eye and when we blink, the fluid is distributed. Therefore, when we sit in front of the monitor for a long time, sometimes our eyes water. (The principle “a lot is not a little” works here)

The eyes are a very interesting organ that is worth keeping an eye on, we don’t have other such organs and it’s sad, but we haven’t learned how to grow eyes yet.

Thank you for reading up to this point, maybe I didn’t cover all the conflicts between the eyes and the computer, but I think I gave food for thought.
And if it’s not difficult, write about what you would like to know next)

Thank you dear reader, all the best to you and this… Go for a walk or something
